An Engineer-Led Custom Home Builder in New Brunswick

Pythagore Construction is a family-owned custom home builder based in Shediac, New Brunswick, founded and led by a Civil Engineer (B.Eng) and PMP-certified project manager. We design and build custom homes and major renovations across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island for homeowners who want their project planned properly and built to last.

What sets an engineer-led build apart is what happens before the shovel touches the ground. We coordinate design, structure, systems, selections, and pricing as one plan, so the number you approve is the number we build to, and every home is engineered to exceed code, not just meet it. It is the commercial standard, brought home.

Our Custom Home Building Process

Building a custom home in New Brunswick should feel guided, not stressful. Our design-build process coordinates structure, systems, selections, and pricing before construction begins, so decisions are made on paper, where changes cost nothing. One team stays accountable from the first consultation to the final walkthrough.

Energy-Efficient, High-Performance Homes

Up to $15,000 in New Brunswick, up to $25,000 in Nova Scotia, and new federal rebates for first-time buyers. We plan your build to qualify and handle the registration timing.

Certified Nudura ICF installers. Quiet, resilient, energy-efficient walls made for Atlantic Canada’s wind, moisture, and freeze-thaw climate.

10-Year Structural Warranty

Every home is backed by the 10-Year Atlantic Home Warranty covering major structural defects, plus full builder insurance through Intact: general liability and course-of-construction coverage. Frequently asked questions

What areas do you cover?

We build across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island from our home base near Shediac and Greater Moncton. Most of our residential work is in Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview, Shediac, Cap-Pelé, and surrounding southeast New Brunswick, and we take on the right projects across all three Maritime provinces, from Fredericton and Saint John to Halifax, Charlottetown, and Summerside.

What does it cost to build a custom home in New Brunswick or the Maritimes?

Custom homes we build start around $300 per square foot and can reach $500 or more for complex, high-performance designs. Where your project lands depends on the design, the site, and your selections. During Planning & Pre-Construction we price your actual design against your actual site, so the number you approve is the number we build to.

How long does it take to build a custom home?

Plan on roughly 10 to 14 months from first conversation to keys: design, planning, and permitting typically take 2 to 4 months, and construction itself 6 to 10 months depending on size and complexity. Start planning in fall or winter and you can break ground in spring and be home before the next winter.

What warranty and insurance come with a Pythagore build?

Every home comes with a 10-Year Atlantic Home Warranty covering major structural defects. The company carries full general liability and course-of-construction insurance through Intact Insurance, and we verify that every subcontractor on your project carries their own liability coverage. Pythagore is led by a Civil Engineer (B.Eng) and PMP-certified project manager, so structural and schedule decisions get professional oversight from day one.

Do you take on renovations, or only new homes?

Both. Additions, whole-home transformations, and structural renovations get the same engineering-led planning as a new build, which matters even more in renovation work, where the biggest risks are hidden inside existing walls. We tell you honestly when a renovation makes sense and when rebuilding is the smarter investment.

Do you do commercial projects and construction project management?

Yes. Before founding Pythagore, our team led commercial construction in healthcare, including hospitals, nursing homes, dental and medical clinics, institutional buildings, and projects for the Department of National Defence. Today we take on clinic renovations and fit-outs, multi-unit residential, and construction management for owners who need one accountable team. We are currently renovating a dental clinic in the region.

What rebates exist for building an energy-efficient home in NB, NS, or PEI?

More than most people think. New Brunswick’s New Home Energy Savings Program offers up to $15,000 for high-performance new homes (register before your building permit). Efficiency Nova Scotia’s EnergyForward program offers up to $25,000. PEI offers $2,000 to $5,000 for ENERGY STAR and R-2000 homes. First-time buyers can also qualify for the new federal GST rebate of up to $50,000 on homes up to $1 million, and an energy-efficient home can earn a 25% mortgage-insurance premium refund through CMHC, Sagen, or Canada Guaranty. We walk every client through what their build qualifies for and handle the registration timing.

How involved will I be in the building process?

As involved as you want to be. Decisions come to you in a structured sequence, and our private client portal shows real-time photos, progress updates, and approvals, so you always know where your project stands, whether you live nearby or out of province.

What makes Pythagore different from other builders?

We bring the commercial standard to residential construction. Our background is hospitals, clinics, and institutional buildings, where good enough for code is never good enough. Most residential construction is built to the code minimum; we design and build to exceed it, on every project, because code is the floor, not the goal.
